Geocache Description:

Note: As of 1.1.2026, there is a $10 parking fee to enter the Tallulah Gorge State Park.

When I moved to the north Georgia area, one of the best perks was being close to Tallulah Gorge! There are a variety of hikes and the views are always spectacular. I try to take my out-of-town visitors there, too.

To claim this virtual, you will need to hike down to the suspension bridge from the North Rim or the South Rim. The parking coordinates take you to parking near the Visitor's Center which is the North Rim side. There are 310 stairs down to the bridge from the parking and the distance round trip is about .7 miles. (If you come down from the South Rim, it will be 347 stairs.)

Make your way to the center of the suspension bridge over the gorge. After admiring the view, take a photo of you or a geo-object with the DOUBLE cable bolt in the background or with you pointing to it. ATTACH the photo to your log.

12.31.2025 Edit -

After looking closer at some previous log photos, I have to add: If the cable bolt is not included in the photo, you have not met the requirements and your log will be deleted.

I have included a couple of photos in the gallery as examples.

About Tallulah Gorge:

Get ready to be amazed by the beautiful waterfalls, landscape, and scenery that is Tallulah Gorge. One of the most spectacular canyons in the eastern U.S., Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet deep. Visitors can hike rim trails to several overlooks, or they can obtain a permit to hike to the gorge floor (100 per day, not available during water releases). A suspension bridge sways 80 feet above the rocky bottom, providing spectacular views of the river and waterfalls.

Tightrope walkers have twice crossed the gorge, and visitors can still see towers used by Karl Wallenda. A paved path follows an on old railroad bed, perfect for strollers and bicycles, while mountain bikers can test their skills on a challenging 10-mile trail. Exhibits in the park's Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center highlight the rich history of this Victorian resort town, as well as the rugged terrain and fragile ecosystem of the area. An award-winning film takes viewers on a dramatic journey through the gorge, including footage of rock climbers and kayakers. (Source: exploregeorgia.org)

Thank you for visiting Tallulah Gorge in beautiful North Georgia!
