Geocache Description:

Sagan om de tvÄ tornen - The two towers

SV

The main entrance, since 2023 called the Northern Entrance, is one of Gothenburg's most classic buildings. But the two towers have not always graced the front of the theme park. The outlay date (May 8th) for this Virtual is on the centenary of the first real entry.

1924 - A new entrance is presented

In 1924, the Jubilee exhibition was a thing of the past. The amusement park was renamed Liseberg and a new entrance saw the light of day. A temporary device, it was called then, which consisted of the grid and turnstiles that were at Götaplatsen during the exhibition. From the beginning, the idea was to rebuild the old gatehouses that were on the place before it became an amusement park. The plan was never realized, instead the entrance looked like this until 1928. The architect was chief architect Arvid Bjerke. In 1925 the grid was green. Maybe they were the same color until the entrance was rebuilt again.

1929 - New entrance building – the one with one tower.

1929 was the premiere of the theme parks new stately entrance. The one with one tower. The modern building provided the opportunity for so-called double control, partly through ticket sales, partly through barriers with counters. Outside the entrance, things also happened; ÖrgrytevĂ€gen was widened, a tram stop and a parking lot was built on the other side of the road.

The tower on the roof of the entrance building was about 20 meters high. Or as one newspaper put it: "The tower becomes so high that, in attempting to see its top, one must assume the position of the perfect schnapps guzzler when committing the act."

1940 - Two towers at the main entrance.

Eleven years later, it was time again. The new entrance had more turnstiles than before and also a security office. But above all it had two towers! The entrance was designed by architect Axel Jonson. The beautiful color image was taken in 1950, the year when Television was presented as "tomorrow's sensation" in the Concert Hall and the Rotunda.

1980 - Today's tower is in place.

Immediately after the theme park closed in the fall of 1979, the demolition of Pop In and the construction of the replacement Lisebergshallen began. In connection with that, the Main Entrance was also demolished, which was badly damaged by ground subsidence. A completely new entrance building, with the same appearance as the previous one, was in place for the premiere in 1980. The architect was Bengt Lidström. In connection with the construction, an electronic entrance and registration system was installed in the entrance.
