Geocache Description:

The TPC Scottsdale is the home of the largest-attended golf tournament in the world, the Waste Management Phoenix Open (WMPO).

Fun Facts About the WMPO:

  1. The Open was founded in 1932 as the Arizona Open. The name changed to the Phoenix Open in 1935. It’s the fifth-oldest tournament on the PGA Tour.
  2. The tournament moved in 1987 to its current home, the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale.
  3. Waste Management has been the title sponsor since 2010.  That sponsorship deal was recently extended through 2030.
  4. Over five days in 2018, a record 718,000 ticketed visitors attended the Open, making it the most-attended golf tournament in the world. Organizers stopped disclosing attendance figures in 2019, but the 2023 Open is believed to have drawn in excess of 800,000.
  5. Byron Nelson won the tournament in 1939 receiving $700.  Scottie Sheffler won in 2023 receiving $3,600,000.
  6. Other winners include: Ben Hogan (1946, 1947), Ken Venturi (1958), Arnold Palmer (1961, 1962, 1963), Jack Nicklaus (1964), Johnny Miller (1974, 1975), Phil Mickelson (1996, 2005, 2013), Brooks Koepka (2015, 2021), Hideki Matsuyama (2016, 2017), Scottie Scheffler (2022, 2023)

To Validate Your Visit:

Please upload a picture with your log entry that includes the following:

  1. your GEOCACHING USERNAME clearly displayed and HELD in the frame
  2. a visible sign or element that identifies that you are at the TPC Scottsdale Golf Course  (There is a huge WMPO sign at Ground Zero that is ideal.  If Ground Zero is not accessible or you have a more creative TPC Scottsdale vantage point, that will work.  I look forward to pictures of USERNAMEs from the golf course during the tournament.  DO NOT FORGET THE USERNAME REQUIREMENT.  Example photos are in my original 'Write Note' log entry.)

'Found It' logs that do not meet the photo requirements will be deleted.   It is NOT REQUIRED that you be in the picture.

About This Virtual Cache:

I was able to place this virtual cache based on the Virtual Rewards 4.0 program detailed below.  The geocaches that led to this virtual cache were inspired by The TPC Scottsdale.  The series of 18 gadget caches are all made from PVC, and therefore are called The PVC Scottsdale.  The PVC Scottsdale geocache courses start here:
