Conveniently situated just south of Bath Spa railway station, Widcombe is one of Bath's most sought-after districts. Impressive Georgian terraces line the steep slopes behind the popular high street, which is replete with independent cafes, bars, and restaurants.
But I expect many visitors to Bath miss it. Hence this Virtual.
It is a simple 4-stage virtual. You can do them in any order, but they are numbered assuming you are coming from the city centre/train station/bus station. At the first 3 stages, you need to find some information. Please message or email me via the features of the website with your answers. At the final stage, you need to take a photo and post this with your log.
The "CCCC" in the cache name stands for:
- Cross: The bridge from Bath Railway Station.
- Commerce: The charming "High Street", with its independent shops and restaurants.
- Canal: The Kennet and Avon Canal runs through here.
- Crescent: You will find one of Bath's lesser-known Georgian Crescents here.
Virtual stage 1 (Cross)
Welcome to Widcombe. As soon as you cross the river you are in Widcombe. At N 51° 22.614' W 2° 21.376, What is the surname of the Engineer (ESQr)?
Virtual stage 2 (Commerce)
As you come into Widcombe Parade, you will find a Victorian "Stinkpike" at N 51° 22.591' W 2° 21.342'. What is the name of the engineering firm on the pipe?
Note that this road is commonly called "Widcombe Parade", but in fact, only the south side of the road has that name. The north side is called Claverton Buildings.

Virtual stage 3 (Canal)
Bath Deep Lock - Kennet & Avon Canal
The second deepest lock in the country was created by merging two locks. It has grassy banks and a wide, open towpath making it suitable for film crews.

At N 51° 22.611 W 2° 21.157 you will find an information sign. What is the name of the most northerly road on the map which crosses the canal?
Virtual stage 4 (Crescent)
At N 51° 22.510' W 2° 20.989' (the headline coordinates for this geocache) you will find a bench overlooking Widcombe Crescent. Widcombe Crescent is a terrace of 14 Georgian houses built in 1808 by Thomas Baldwin, and designated a Grade I listed building. The three-storey houses, which have mansard roofs, are stepped up from either side to central 2 houses which project slightly.
It is one of the 7 Georgian Crescents in the city. You can see 5 others doing Georgian Crescents of Bath
Here you simply need to take a photo of the crescent, with either yourself or something with your geocaching name on it. See examples below.
