Als toerist in Amsterdam, er is een goede kans dat je bent aangekomen op het Centraal Station, het station aan de voorkant verlaat en de meeste tijd in het centrum besteedt. De grachten, bruggen, grachtenpanden, café's en musea maken Amsterdam een mooie stad om te bezoeken te voet en op de fiets.
Maar als je een ander gezicht op de stad wil, probeer eens het station te verlaten in in de tegenovergestelde richting. Aan de achterkant van het Centraal Station vind je het IJ en de pontjes die je naar Noord brengen.
De pontjes tussen Amsterdam Centrum en Amsterdam Noord zijn gratis. Geen kaartjes of gedoe, je stapt aan boord (fietsen en scooters zijn toegestaan) en je geniet van de vaart en het uitzicht. De pontjes varen 24/7.

As a tourist in Amsterdam, there’s a good chance you will arrive at Central Station, leave by the front, and spend most of your time in “the centre” — the concentric canals, bridges, merchant houses, cafés, museums, and sights make it a beautiful place to wander and cycle.
But if you want a slightly different view of the city, try heading out of the station in the opposite direction. Out the back of the Central Station is where you will find the river IJ (pronounce it “eye” or “aye”, and you’ll be close enough), and the ferries to take you to “Noord” (North).
The ferries between Amsterdam Centre and Amsterdam North across the river are completely free. No tickets, no hassle — you just walk on (bikes and scooters are allowed on board), and enjoy the ride. The ferries run 24/7.

Beschrijving
We staan hier op het middelste eiland, genaamd "Stationseiland" van de 3 eilanden die zijn aangeplempt in het IJ tussen 1870 en 1880. Het middelste eiland werd geplempt met zand uit de Noordzeeduinen en was nodig als bodem voor het Centraal Station. Tot dan eindigden de spoorverbindingen in oost en west en waren niet verbonden. Met de bouw van het eiland zijn 9000 palen onder het eiland geheid voor stabiliteit. Voor deze bouw was het hier een open waterfront tegen het IJ en dus open zee.
Description
We are standing on middle island, named "Stationseiland" (EN: "Station Island") of the 3 islands that were recovered from IJ between 1870 and 1880. This middle island was recovered with sand from Northsee dunes and needed as ground for the central railway station. Until then the railways to Amsterdam ended in west and east and were internally not connected. With the construction of the island, 9000 poles under the island were placed into deeper ground for stability. Before the construction, this area was the port of Amsterdam to the river IJ and thus to open sea.
Taak voor het loggen
Om deze cache te loggen dien je een foto van jezelf te maken op de locatie met het IJ als achtergrond en tenminste één veerpont. Een foto met daarop een papier met je naam of met een persoonlijke tag of goodie is ook goed met het IJ en een veerpont als achtergrond.
De foto moet bij de found log. Stuur de foto niet via message centre!!
Requirement voor logging
To log this cache you have to make a picture of yourself at the geocache location with the IJ as background and with at least one ferry on it. A picture with a paper with your name on it or with a personal tag or goodie is also fine if it is with the IJ and a ferry as background and on the location of the geocache.
The picture has to be posted with your found log. Do not send it via message centre!!
