The Opera House construction began in 1898 and it opened on January 1st, 1900. The architectural style is Beaux-Arts and the architect was Felix Olivier. It has a capacity seating of 500. It possesses the elegant and aesthetic characteristics of French Colonial architecture.
The Saigon Opera House is an easy walk from other colonial-era masterpieces, including the Central Post Office and Notre-Dame Basilica.
One of our precious daughters was born here in this city. Recently we were very fortunate to be able to visit Vietnam and see a good part of the city now called Ho Chi Minh City, although at the time she was here it was called Saigon.
Caches around the city are available but not in great numbers. Our bus brought us to this location from the cruise port and later we left the city from this spot so felt it would be a good location for us to establish our Virtual Geocache Gift as it seemed it was a very accessible location for locals and visitors alike.
You are required to stand at, or close to, the co-ordinates and take a photo with yourself in the picture, or an item with your geocaching name in the picture, towards the front of the Opera House which is here. You will be standing at the base of the stairs with your geocaching name held out between you and the front of the Opera House or have someone take your photo on the stairs in front of or below the entrance holding your geocaching name. But it must have the front facade of the Opera House in the picture and, as we said, something that identifies you as being present at the location. We require a selfie type of photograph of you and/or your geocaching name taken with the backjground showing the facade of the Opera House.
When you log the cache then you must attach your photograph with your log. Any log without this requirement will be deleted.
