Geocache Description:

Stone Tower was built in 1933-34, as an observation platform for one of the tallest peaks in the park. In the past, the surrounding woods were cut to reveal stunning valleys.  The views are still amazing today.  The tower stands at an elevation of 2,250 feet and overlooks Salamanca to the North and Red House Lake to the South.  A capital "N" was carved in the center of the deck with an arrow through it to indicate which way is North. Enjoy the views and complete these tasks to receive credit for the find:

Task 1.  Message the answers to the following questions (one msg. per group is fine... note those in your group.):

1.  On the historical information sign near the tower, during what years did the Civilian Conservation Corp camps operate at the park?

2.  Find the green sign that mentions the graffiti clean up.  How much money did the clean up cost?

Task 2:  Photo proof of visit:  Take a photo of yourself (examples below), your group, or a personal item if you are 'camera shy', with both a portion of the tower and a scenic view in the photo.  I highly recommend going to the top to do this!

Photos of the CO's visits in May and April... different elevations and views:

This geocache is placed with the permission of OPRHP, and has been granted permit #ALL-39A.

Please note:::  The roads to the tower are not maintained in the winter.  Do not attempt to drive here if there is significant snow on the roads!  Note also that a fee is often charged to enter the park between Memorial Day and early October.
