Welcome to The Bastion, Nanaimo’s iconic landmark located in the original old city downtown. It is so well known that there was no sign on site at the time this virtual was written. There will be much more information available during the summer tourist season.
The Bastion is the last remaining Hudson Bay bastion in North America and the oldest heritage site. As a part of the Nanaimo Museum, it is open July 1st to September 4th during select days and hours. For more information and a brief history of the Bastion please search it on line. There are many other historic plaques, memorials, signs etc in the area including 2 cannons that are fired at noon during summer operations.
At least one of the following options are required to prevent your log from being deleted:
1 The preferred option: Place your phone or GPSr on the plaque labelled "Bastion Centennial Square" 1871 - 1971 with it set to locate this virtual then take a photo or a screen shot of it showing either the coordinates or the distance to the G Zone. See the spoiler photos for an example of a screen shot This time capsule and plaque is less than 10 metres North of the Bastion and is the GZ for this Virtual.

2. Take a photo of yourself or your Geocache name with the Bastion or nearby feature in the background. A humourous disguise would be fun

3. Email or message the CO with the answer to this question: How many heritage walks are described on the sign "Nanaimo Heritage Walk" located South of the Bastion? No need to wait for the CO's reply to log your find.
