In October 1948, Harry & Esther Snyder opened California's first drive-thru hamburger stand at the intersection of Francisquito and Garvey in Baldwin Park, CA. That restaurant served customers from a space barely 10 feet square, introducing them to the taste of some of the freshest hamburgers around. Their philosophy was simple: Give customers the freshest, highest quality food and provide them with friendly service in a sparking clean environment.
Just six years later, construction of the 10 freeway forced a relocation of the original stand to down the street, and that newer spot stood for about 50 years until it was decided to shut it down and relocate the restaurant again. This time it was relocated to just across the freeway underpass to a lot adjacent to the In-N-Out company store and training center. The closed In-N-Out building stood empty for almost seven years until it was completely demolished in 2011. In 2014, the site of the rubble was repurposed as the home of a replica of the original (1948) In-N-Out.
This virtual takes you to this replica of the original drive-thru restaurant, complete with replicas (and many originals) of all of the equipment used to operate it back in it's heyday.
The Museum is open from Thursday thru Sunday from 11am - 2pm to take a look back in time. Head on inside and imagine working with up to 7 others in this tiny space! It's free, staffed with a knowledgable employee, and well worth a visit if you can be there during the time it's open. But to take the necessary picture to log the find, you can go anytime and take the picture from the sidewalk. Note that there is no legal parking on the street. As such, when the museum is closed, the most convenient parking is at the In-N-Out restaurant on the other side of the freeway from which you could walk about 500' to the museum, without having to cross the street.
To claim a find for this virtual, you must have visited this location after the published date and post a picture, showing anything with your geocaching name on it, with the museum in the background. If you don't have anything with your name on it, write it on a piece of paper, write it on your hand...whatever works best for you! Just be sure it is showing in the picture.
Please Note: Pictures of just you, or digitally adding your name to a photo, do not fulfill the requirement...you need to visit the location and take a photo as described above.
