This interesting spot was built during the War of 1812 after the fall of Fort George. The structure was built out of the remains of the first lighthouse of the Great Lakes and ruined building from Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake's original name). It was designated a National Historic Site in 1960. The golf course here makes this place hard to see from a distance making it a hidden gem of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
A new pathway from Queen Street was added to make the area more accessible and other improvements have been made to preserve the area. It's great to see this historic place being taken care of.
The title of the cache is a tribute to GCJYZF, a 2004 cache by LugNuts which first brought me here.
The grounds are open between the hours of 10 a.m.– 5 p.m and is free to enter.
