Geocache Description:

This new Virtual is to bring tourists traveling through Baker City to this historic place that honors the hard-working, diligent people who lived here while working in the gold mines and building the railroad.

This site served as a temporary burial ground from 1880 - 1940. Their remains were dug up and transported to China in the 1940's. One can easily see many of the gravesites. As a memorial, one headstone is placed over the former grave of Lee Chue. Now it is a park maintained by Baker City. Please stay on the graveled walkways as you read the interesting signs that describe the history and the purpose of the shrine that is preserved.

You may qualify to log a Found It for this Virtual by sending a private message to us (using the "Message the Owner" link at the top) telling us the name of the plant shown on a sign low to the ground at the posted coordinates. It is not "Sagebrush," shown on another sign. You may log the Found It first as long as your qualifying message is sent within five days. No photos are required to claim the find. Any photos that you want to add to your log are fine, but not the sign that shows the requested plant name.

A multicache was published here in December of 2004 as GCM8J4. Its creator ceased geocaching, but it lasted with the help of a local geocacher who maintained it while receiving 169 Favorite votes. We were the last DNF searchers and when a reviewer began to archive it, we decided to create a Virtual so this can remain into the future.

This was placed as part of the Virtual Rewards 4.0 - 2024-2025, a limited release of Virtuals created between January 17, 2024 and January 17, 2025. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. Learn more about Virtual Rewards 4.0 on the Geocaching Blog.
