I have resided in Grimsby,Ontario since 2001. I love the history of this little town so that is the reasoning for me to place my virtual rewards 4.0 here. One of the many remarkable historical locations in town is Nelles Manor. It is located on old highway #8 on Main Street West.
The house served as Colonel Robert Nelles residence. The Nelles family became United Empire Loyalists. Nelles Manor; a Georgian style manor, was completed in 1798 by the Nelles family and shipbuilders. This location was also a War of 1812 Battlefield Site. This heritage house was home to Robert's family for 4 generations until 1971, when it was purchased by the Coutts. It was resorted to its former glory & donated to the people of Grimsby in 2015.
The Nelles family is a such a respected name in Grimsby with several places named after them; Nelles Public School, Nelles Beach, Nelles Boulevard, Nelles Road North & South, Nelles Fitch House & Nelles Manor.
You can visit the museum for a nominal fee. During peek season it is open Friday-Sunday & holiday Mondays or by appointment. The museum opens May Long weekend to Labour Day. Many events happen at the Manor; Engagement at the Forty, Canada Day celebrations, vintage car show, ghost tours, lawn concerts, Magical Christmas tours to name a few. I have toured the house a few times & thoroughly enjoyed it.
Robert Nelles is buried nearby at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, just west of the manor
Logging requirements:
Read the plaque for answers to questions 1,2 & 3

2/What did Nelles build on nearby Forty Mile Creek?
3/When did Robert Nelles pass away?
4/What country's flag is located between the white pillars at the front of the manor?
5/Look at the historic house across the street from the manor. This historic home was built in 1852 by Charles Nelles. This Regency cottage has a bent Catalpa tree in front of the house that was once said to be a marker on an early Indian trail, leading south to flint beds in Wainfleet. What name is on the front white door?
6/What house number is on this cottage?
7/Mandatory: Post a photo of yourself with the Nelles Manor visible in the background or if you are not comfortable showing your face then ink a happy face on your thumb & show your thumb infront of the manor or place your head in the war soldier wood painted cut-out & get a picture of yourself. Note: The soldier is probably seasonal. Each log must have a photograph with one of the above requirements.
Do not post your answers. Email or message them to me.
