What is The Oculus?

The Oculus is a decorative, circular, glass 'window' placed in the center of the Pedestrian Walkway scenic overlook on the I-74 Bridge, above the Mighty Mississippi River. Visitors can use the walkway to safely observe it up close at the scenic overlook area.

How do I get to The Oculus?

Parking is available on either end of the I-74 bridge as designated in the 'Iowa Parking' and 'Illinois Parking' waypoints on this cache page. You then walk, jog, run, bike, scooter, or roller blade (and YES... you can roll up in a wheelchair!) from parking up the Pedestrian Walkway to the center of the bridge where you'll find seating and a special circular scenic overlook containing The Oculus and two other sculptures.  The gently-sloping pedestrian path runs the entire length of new I-74 bridge.The view of Moline and Rock Island IL, Bettendorf and Davenport, IA and the Mississippi RIver from this scenic overlook is nothing short of FANTASTIC!  You can also view the mighty Mississippi River below you through the glass of The Oculus. The Oculus itself is made of thick, tempered glass that is safe to stand on. The entire path is also lit at night to provide safe travel accommodations after dark. The I-74 bridge arches are also lit up with powerful, seasonally colorful LED lights. It's gorgeous!

Requirements for logging this virtual cache:

To verify that you actually visited The Oculus, you MUST post a picture with your 'Found It' log of you, a unique personal item, (or your group if with a group) either DIRECTLY ON The Oculus (the glass circle as shown in the top photo), OR...  if standing on the glass gives you the jitters, then position yourself just BETWEEN THE OCULUS AND THE BLUE SCULPTURE.

Important!....  WITH EITHER PHOTO OPTION:  YOU, THE OCULUS, THE SCULPTURE, AND THE I-74 BRIDGE ARCHES IN THE BACKGROUND MUST ALL BE IN THE PHOTO.  

Feel free to wear your Superman, Wonder Woman, Thor, Captain America, etc. costumes and have some fun with the photos.

'Found It' logs that do not contain the above photo requirement, or that have an obviously digitally altered photo, will be deleted.
