Der Turmberg zu Karlsruhe ist der Hausberg der ehemaligen badischen Residenzstadt Durlach. Mit seinen 256 m N.N. ist er der nordwestliche Gipfel des Schwarzwaldes.
Er ist nicht nur für die Karlsruher ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel mit einem wunderschönen Blick auf die Rheinebene und das Stadtgebiet von Durlach und Karlsruhe. Man erreicht ihn per Auto über die 1930 erbaute Panoramastraße oder per Fuß über 528 Treppenstufen. Leider ist die seit 1888 existierende Turmbergbahn für die nächsten Jahr(zehnt)e gesperrt, da es einen Neubau geben soll.
Im 11./12. Jh. hatten auf der Burg Hohenberg die Pfinzgaugrafen der Hohenberger ihren Sitz. Zu dieser Zeit soll es hier schon einen Wohnturm gegeben haben. Dieser wurde aber im 13. Jh. von den Markgrafen von Baden abgetragen und stattdessen ein in die Umfassungsmauer integrierter schlankerer Bergfried erbaut: der heutige Turmbergturm. Anfangs waren die Markgrafen noch auf der Burg, die sie "castrum Durlach" nannten. Castrum Durlach fungierte nach 1556, als Markgraf Karl II. die Residenz in die Karlsrurg Durlach verlegte, nur noch als 28 m hoher Wachturm. Der kleinere "Turm" davor ist ein 13 m hoher Pfeiler mit einer an den Wachturm angebauten Plattform, um eine Alarmkanone aufzustellen. Im Gefahrenfall läutete zudem von hier aus eine Glocke. Von der Burganlage erhalten geblieben ist ein Teil der ehemaligen Ringmauer mit einem Wehrturm entlang der Panoramastraße, die in das hiesige Restaurant eingebunden sind.
Seit Juli 2025 kann man den Turm nach der Sanierung wieder besteigen. Die Aussicht ist fantastisch.

The Turmberg in Karlsruhe is the local mountain of the former Baden royal seat of Durlach. At 256 m above sea level, it is the north-western peak of the Black Forest.
It is not only a popular excursion destination for Karlsruhe residents with a wonderful view of the Rhine plain and the urban area of Durlach and Karlsruhe. It can be reached by car via the panoramic road built in 1930 or on foot via 528 steps. Unfortunately, the Turmbergbahn, which has been in existence since 1888, will be closed for the next few years (decades) due to plans for a new building.
In the 11th/12th century, Hohenberg Castle was the seat of the Pfinzgau Counts of Hohenberg. There is said to have been a residential tower here at this time. However, this was demolished by the Margraves of Baden in the 13th century and a slimmer mountain fiddle integrated into the surrounding wall was built instead: today's Turmberg Tower. Initially, the margraves still lived in the castle, which they called "castrum Durlach". After 1556, when Margrave Karl II moved his residence to the Karlsburg Durlach, Castrum Durlach functioned only as a 28 m high watchtower. The smaller "tower" in front of it is a 13 m high pillar with a platform attached to the watchtower to set up an alarm cannon. In case of danger, a bell also rang from here. Part of the former curtain wall and a defense tower along the panoramic road, which are integrated into the local restaurant, have been preserved from the castle complex.
Since July 2025, visitors have been able to climb the tower again following its renovation. The view is fantastic.

Le Turmberg de Karlsruhe est la montagne emblématique de l'ancienne ville de résidence badoise de Durlach. Avec ses 256 m d'altitude, c'est le sommet nord-ouest de la Forêt-Noire.
C'est un but d'excursion apprécié, et pas seulement par les habitants de Karlsruhe, avec une vue magnifique sur la plaine du Rhin et la zone urbaine de Durlach et Karlsruhe. On y accède en voiture par la route panoramique construite en 1930 ou à pied par 528 marches. Malheureusement, le funiculaire Turmbergbahn, qui existe depuis 1888, sera fermé pendant les prochaines années (décennies), car il doit être remplacé par une nouvelle construction.
Aux 11ème et 12ème siècles, les comtes de Pfinzgau des Hohenberg avaient leur siège au château de Hohenberg. A cette époque, il y aurait déjà eu une tour d'habitation. Celle-ci fut cependant démolie au 13ème siècle par les margraves de Baden et remplacée par un pylône de montagne plus mince intégré dans le mur d'enceinte : l'actuelle tour de la tour. Au début, les margraves étaient encore dans le château qu'ils appelaient "castrum Durlach". Après 1556, lorsque le margrave Karl II a transféré sa résidence au château de Karlsrurg Durlach, le castrum Durlach n'était plus qu'une tour de guet de 28 mètres de haut. La "tour" plus petite qui se trouve devant est un pilier de 13 m de haut avec une plate-forme accolée à la tour de guet pour y installer un canon d'alarme. En cas de danger, une cloche sonnait d'ici. Une partie de l'ancien mur d'enceinte et une tour de défense ont été conservées le long de la route panoramique et sont intégrées dans le restaurant local.
Depuis juillet 2025, il est à nouveau possible de monter au sommet de la tour après sa rénovation. La vue est fantastique.
