Geocache Description:

Strunjanski polotok skriva mnoge zaklade naravne in kulturne dediščine.

EN

The Strunjan peninsula hides many natural and cultural heritage treasures. The healthy environment, authentic customs, beautiful views and the diversity of fauna and flora offer many opportunities for active enjoyment of nature.

It is possible to stay in the park all day or return to it several times. Nature here is constantly changing, so every visit will be a new experience. Due to the unique connection of the sea, the coast and its hinterland, and the people and their centuries-old heritage, the Strunjan Landscape Park is a precious piece of the Adriatic coast.

The cultural landscape with its scattered settlements, borders and terraces, bounded by dry stone walls, enables a high-quality coexistence between nature and man. Part of it are, among others, the still active Strunjan salt pans and the Stjuža lagoon as a remnant of former extensive aquaculture, which together delimit the area of salt marshes, one of the most endangered ecosystems on Earth.
As a wider protected area in Slovenia, part of which is also the sea, the Strunjan peninsula also boasts the longest stretch of natural coastline in the Gulf of Trieste, above which rises a geologically still active flysch cliff. The diversity of living environments and their preservation contribute to the exceptional biodiversity, which you can help us preserve by acting correctly and following protection regulations.

The Strunjan Landscape Park was established on 2 February 1990 by the municipalities of Izola and Piran on the basis of the then-current Natural and Cultural Heritage Act, with the aim of protecting natural values and preserving biodiversity and landscape diversity. In 1999, the Nature Conservation Act was adopted, a new fundamental regulation for nature protection in Slovenia, on the basis of which the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, in 2004, determined the boundaries of the park by decree and defined the associated nature protection, management and supervision regimes.

The Strunjan Landscape Park Public Institute, established at the end of 2008, promotes activities in the area of the landscape park in a scope and form that preserves or improves the state of the natural environment and cultural landscape and at the same time enables the development of the local community.]
