My photo taken on an overcast day at the weir.
Meewasin Riverworks Weir is a popular Saskatoon landmark.
Built in 1939 as a water reservoir and regulator of water flow through the city, the weir was one of a number of depression era make work projects. In 1967, after the Gardiner Dam was built upstream it was no longer necessary to regulate the water flow.
The weir remains a popular visitor attraction along the Meewasin Valley Trail. From April through October a large number of pelicans gather to fish and can been viewed from the boardwalk lookout point.
