*****YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR CACHER NAME ON THE PHOTOGRAPH TO QUALIFY FOR THIS FIND*****
Rottnest / Wadjemup island is home to the famous quokka. The island was named by 17th century Dutch sailors who thought our beautiful mini marsupials were in fact giant rats and hence the name Rat's Nest.
The aim of this virtual is to get a photograph of a quokka but with your cacher name in the photograph. No photo-shopping or your log will be deleted. Quokkas are frequently seen on the Somerville Drive precinct especially near the food stops. The coordinates will take you to this location but it is not critical the picture is taken at this exact spot.
You are welcome to try and get a ‘quokka selfie’ but remember – to qualify for the find, the photo MUST include your cacher name. You do not have to show your face in the photo.
Please adhere to the island rules regarding quokkas
- Wait nearby and let them come to you
- NEVER touch or pat the quokkas
- DO NOT attempt to feed or give them water
- For quokka selfies, preferably use a selfie stick to maintain your distance
- Remember – this is THEIR home and you are the visitor. Do not harass or chase them
- For any wildlife issues call the rangers on 9372 9788
If for any reason you are unable to locate a quokka to photograph, then please use a photograph of your cacher name with the Somerville Drive precinct behind.
Some further quokka advice can be found at the Rottnest Island website
