Geocache Description:

Welcome to Mt Cowley, the highest point of the Otways Ranges. It stands at 689m above sea level, quite small in comparison to Mt Bogong, Victoria's highest peak, that stands at 1986m above sea level. It is, however,  a very beautiful spot.

The coordinates will bring you to the fire tower, one of three fire towers in the Otways. The Mt Cowley tower was opened in 1968 when the Mt Ingoldsby tower at Anglesea was abandoned. The road in is an excellent, well maintained dirt 2WD road coming from either Barwon Downs or Lorne. The road is open all year round, however it should never be attempted in severe weather.

Our favourite route from Lorne is via Sharps road. This is a well made road but it is windy, steep and narrow, but is a lovely drive. Bear in mind, this road is a seasonal road and can be closed during wet weather. Remember you are driving through rainforest and there is an abundance of wildlife. Take your time, drive slowly and enjoy this beautiful part of Victoria.

To log this cache.

1. What is the NSA site number for this tower?

2. Take a photo that proves you were here. It must include you, part of you OR your caching name AND some part of the tower in the photo.

Please send your answers to us via message or email. We'd love you to post your pictures with your log but please do not post any pictures that give the answer away.

NB. This cache should never be attempted on days of total fire ban, and make sure you get the RIGHT site number.
