Geocache Description:

The Williamson Valley Road Series: A Morgan Ranch Park Association History Project

The history of Williamson Valley can be found by reading the 3 MRPA books – Williamson Valley Road, Williamson Valley & Beyond and Prescott to Camp Wood: Cowboy Bill. Morgan Ranch Nature Park is 6 miles north on Williamson Valley Road, ¼ mile east on Nancy Dr. Find more information at our Williamson Valley Historical Society-E Facebook page.

Granite Mountain, located near Prescott, Arizona, stands as an iconic landmark with a rich history and natural beauty that captivates both locals and visitors alike. It is located in the 12-square-mile, 9799-acre Granite Mountain Wilderness area, which is managed by Prescott National Forest. The 7,626-foot (2,324-meter) mountain, which is the high point part of the Bradshaw Ranger District, stands at the northern end of the Sierra Prieta mountain range and borders Skull Valley on the west, on the northwest by the Santa Maria Mountains, and east by Williamson Valley Road. Its name is derived from the large granite rocks that form the mountain, creating a distinctive and rugged landscape. The unique geological features of Granite Mountain have contributed to its popularity among geocachers.

One of the most notable aspects of Granite Mountain is its extensive trail system for hikers, bikers and horse riders. The mountain offers a network of trails that cater to various skill levels, providing opportunities for both beginners and experienced geocachers. Trails connect throughout the three peaks- Little Granite to the east, Granite Mountain in the center, and Baby Granite to the northwest. The panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, canyons, and mountain peaks showcase abundant plants and rock formations which entice geocachers to hide and find geocaches.

Beyond its recreational appeal, the mountain has also been a source of inspiration for artists and writers. Its majestic presence and ever-changing colors, sunrise to sunset, have motivated creative individuals to capture its essence in various forms of art, film, music and literature.

To log a find for this monumental Virtual Rewards 4.0 - 2024-2025, you are required to post a photo of your geocaching name beside the large wooden sign in the parking lot at the coordinates. You can do this in numerous creative ways, for example, write your name on a piece of paper, display your name on your GC app, snap your GC stamp, flash a tattoo of your moniker, or show off your license plates personalized with your GC name. Please post your photo on a "found" log, not on an "answer" log unless you wish for your picture to be private.

Once you make it to ground zero (the 3 difficulty is for the drive), this is an easy task, therefore, logs that do not include the required image will be deleted without prior notice.

This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between January 17, 2024, and January 17, 2025. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. Learn more about Virtual Rewards 4.0 on the Geocaching Blog.

LKLopez was randomly selected from those who had a geocache published in 2023 with four or more Favorite points.
