Die Kathedrale St. Nikolaus (französisch: Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas) wurde 1924 zur Kathedrale des römisch-katholischen Bistums Lausanne, Genf und Freiburg. Schutzpatron ist der heilige Nikolaus.
Die Kathedrale wurde ab 1283 in mehreren Etappen bis 1490 an der Stelle eines romanischen Gotteshauses erbaut. Der Turm der dreischiffigen gotischen Kirche ist 76 Meter hoch. Er wurde 1490 im Stil der späten Flamboyantgotik vollendet. Im Inneren führt eine Wendeltreppe aus 368 Stufen nach oben.
An der mächtigen Westfront öffnet sich das Hauptportal, dessen Tympanon eine Darstellung des Jüngsten Gerichts aus dem 14. Jahrhundert zeigt.
Der schlechte Zustand dieses Süd-Eingangs, der durch den jahrzehntelangen Autoverkehr verursacht wurde, bewog die Stadt in den 1970er Jahren, ihn zu schliessen und zum Schutz mit Holz zu verkleiden. Nach 40 Jahren wurde das Tor restauriert und wieder geöffnet. Da zum Teil nicht mehr bekannt war, wie gewisse Sockel der Statuen ursprünglich aussahen, wurde eine Statue mit einem Sockel versehen, der die Neuzeit zum Thema nimmt: Auf ihm sind Leute zu sehen, die sich intensiv mit ihren Smartphones beschäftigen.

La cathédrale Saint-Nicolas est devenue la cathédrale catholique romaine de Lausanne, Genève et Fribourg en 1924. Le saint patron est Saint-Nicolas.
La cathédrale a été construite en plusieurs étapes de 1283 à 1490 sur l’emplacement d’une église romane. La tour de l’église gothique à trois nefs mesure 76 mètres de haut. Il a été achevé en 1490 dans le style gothique flamboyant tardif. À l’intérieur, un escalier en colimaçon de 368 marches mène au sommet.
Sur le puissant front ouest, s’ouvre le portail principal, dont le tympan montre une représentation du Jugement dernier du XIVe siècle.
Dans les années 1970, le mauvais état de l'entrée sud, causé par des décennies de circulation automobile, a incité la ville à la fermer et à la revêtir de bois pour la protéger. Après 40 ans, la porte a été restaurée et rouverte. The Cathedral of St. Nicholas (French: Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas) became the cathedral of the Roman Catholic diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg in 1924. The patron saint is St. Nicholas.
The cathedral was built in several stages from 1283 until 1490 on the site of a Romanesque church. The tower of the three-nave Gothic church is 76 meters high. It was completed in 1490 in the late Flamboyant Gothic style. Inside, a spiral staircase of 368 steps leads to the top. On the mighty western front, the main portal opens, whose tympanum shows a depiction of the Last Judgement from the 14th century.
In the 1970s, the poor condition of the south entrance, caused by decades of car traffic, prompted the city to close it and clad it with wood for protection. After 40 years, the gate was restored and reopened.
