La Casa de los Gatos o la Gatera del barrio del Carmen, es una curiosa casa en miniatura que sirve de vivienda a los gatos del popular barrio del Carmen del centro histórico de la ciudad de Valencia, colonia gestionada por la asociación de ayuda felina El Sindigato.
Los gatos fueron llevados a otra zona cercana mucho más segura para ellos, no obstante la popular entrada se mantiene para disfrute de todas las personas que quieran acercarse a visitarla..
Su autor es el artesano y escultor Alfonso Yuste Navarro, que en el año 2003 esculpió la fachada de esta casita, aunque los felinos a los que hace referencia en la obra ocupaban este lugar desde el año 1094.
La escultura está compuesta por una fachada de tres alturas junto con una jardinera, que produce el efecto visual de un balcón o patio. La obra esta totalmente detallada: la puerta con su escudo heráldico, las ventanas (una de ellas muestra la fotografía de Charles Chaplin), las escaleras, la fuente, el tejado, un panel de "asegurada de incendios".. pero lo que más llama la atención es la inscripción situada en la parte superior de la fuente: : «A la memoria dels cuatre gats que quedaren al Barri del Carme l’any MXCIV. Mai se les va a sentir un miau mes alt que altre» (En memoria de los cuatro gatos que vivieron en el barrio del Carmen en el año 1094. Nunca se les escuchó un maullido más alto que otro).
La puerta de entrada de esta casita es practicable, y por su hueco entran y salen cómodamente los gatos que al parecer viven en el solar adyacente. Esta pequeña obra de arte no es, pues, otra cosa que una gatera de lujo para los felinos de la barriada.

The House of Cats or the Gatera of the Carmen neighborhood, is a curious miniature house that serves as a home for the cats of the popular Carmen neighborhood in the historic center of the city of Valencia, a colony managed by the feline aid association El Sindigato .
The cats were taken to another nearby area that was much safer for them, however the popular entrance remains for the enjoyment of all people who want to come and visit it.

The sculpture is composed of a three-story façade along with a planter, which produces the visual effect of a balcony or patio. The work is fully detailed: the door with its heraldic shield, the windows (one of them shows the photograph of Charles Chaplin), the stairs, the fountain, the roof, a "fire safety" panel... but what else What is striking is the inscription located at the top of the fountain: "In memory of the four cats that lived in the Carmen neighborhood in the year 1094. No meow was ever heard louder than another"
The entrance door of this house is practicable, and the cats that apparently live on the adjacent lot enter and exit comfortably through its opening.
This small work of art is, therefore, nothing more than a luxury cat flap for the neighborhood cats.
