In 1893, the government of the day, deemed this hill's 53 hectares, as a recreational reserve. Local residents, drawing on voluntary labour, then went about constructing 3 hand built roads and a walking track up to the Summit.
In 1914, a large picnic shelter was built up at the Summit, and this became the local in-spot for picnics. It also became a hot spot for car rallies, and by 1930 motorbike events.
The current road that currently takes you to the Summit was built during the Depression Years in the 1930's by unemployed labourers.
The Mt Gravatt Lookout provides spectacular views of the Brisbane CBD and surrounding suburbs. As well on a clear day, you can see Moreton Bay Islands, D'Aguilar Ranges and Glasshouse Mountains.
