Entstehung

Auf dem „Grotenburg“ genannten Berg bei Detmold liegt eine altgermanische Wallburg, der „große Hünenring“, mit einer 500 m langen und 400 m breiten Hochfläche.

Der Plan, dem Cheruskerfürsten an dieser Stelle ein weithin sichtbares Denkmal zu setzen, geht zurück auf Ernst von Bandel, geboren am 17. Mai 1800.

Bandel hatte mit den Bauarbeiten auf dem von ihm ausgewählten Berg 1838 begonnen, aber erst 37 Jahre später, im Sommer 1875, vollendete er sein Denkmal.

Der Künstler wohnte in den letzten Jahren der Bauarbeiten ständig auf „seinem Berge“, in einem einfachen Blockhaus, der „Bandelhütte“. Diese konnte bis Dezember 2021 besichtigt werden, ehe sie einem Brand zum Opfer fiel.

Mythos

Vor 2000 Jahren hat der Cheruskerfürst Arminius im Teutoburger Wald ein großes römisches Heer des Feldherren Quinctilius Varus vernichtend geschlagen. 1900 Jahre später, im 19. Jahrhundert, galt dieses historische Ereignis als Gründungsmythos der Deutschen Nation. Bekanntestes Symbol dieses Mythos ist das Hermannsdenkmal bei Detmold.

LOGBEDINGUNGEN

Mache von dir ein Foto mit dem Hermannsdenkmal im Hintergrund an den angegebenen Koordinaten. Haltet den rechten Arm wie der Hermann nach oben und Symbolisiere ein Schwert (mit einem Stock, Regenschirm etc.). Lasst eure Fantasie freien lauf.

Wenn ihr euch selber nicht zeigen wollt ist das auch kein Problem. Dann macht einfach ein Foto von eurem GPS Gerät, Maskotchen, Daumen etc. mit dem Hermannsdenkmal im Hintergrund.

Das Foto ist verpflichten um einen Log zu schreiben. Logs ohne Fotos werden nach 10 Tagen kommentarlos gelöscht.

Origin

On the mountain near Detmold called “Grotenburg” there is an old Germanic hill fort, the “Große Hünenring”, with a 500 m long and 400 m wide plateau.

The plan to erect a monument to the Cheruscan prince at this point that can be seen from afar goes back to Ernst von Bandel, born on May 17, 1800.

Take a photo of yourself with the Hermann Monument in the background at the coordinates provided. Hold your right arm up like Hermann and symbolize a sword (with a stick, umbrella, etc.). Let your imagination run wild.

If you don't want to show yourself, that's no problem. Then simply take a photo of your GPS device, mascot, thumb, etc. with the Hermannsdenkmal in the background.

The photo is mandatory to write a log. Logs without photos will be deleted without comment after 10 days.
