Geocache Description:

You are standing at the corner of Erieside Ave and East 9th Street in Cleveland, Ohio.

Welcome Rockers ~ from Northeast Ohio, The United States, 2024 Eclipse Gazers, and the World ~ to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

The museum documents the history of Rock & Roll, including artists, producers, engineers and other notable figures that have influenced the music.  After a 3-year search for the right city, Cleveland was chosen as the site for the museum.  Other cities in the running were Philadelphia, Memphis, Detroit, Cincinnati, and New York City.  Cleveland lobbied hard for the museum, pledging $65 million in public money to fund constructuion.  Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed coined the term "Rock and Roll" and Cleveland was the location of Freed's Moondog Coronation Ball, often credited as the first major Rock & Roll concert.  Cleveland's FM station WMMS broke several major acts in the 1970's and 1980's, including David Bowie, Roxy Music, Bruce Springsteen, and Rush.

Groundbreaking of the museum, designed by I.M. Pei, took place on June 7 1993.  The museum was dedicated on September 1, 1995.  The following night, the "Concert For The Hall of Fame" was held at Cleveland Stadium.  Featured artists that night included Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp and many others.  Formal induction ceremonies have taken place in Cleveland, New York City, and Los Angeles.  Since 2018, the ceremonies alternate between Cleveland and New York City.

Inductees into the Hall of Fame include Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Alan Freed from the inagural class in 1986, to Bruce Springsteen in 1999, to Van Halen in 2007, to Sheryl Crow in 2023 and hundreds of other inductees in between.  Other music genres represented include Gospel, R&B, Blues, Country, Hip Hop, and Rap.

Now let's get to what you need to do to log this Virtual Cache ... As you stand at the corner of Erieside Ave & East 9th Street, you will see an information board (see image in gallery).  The top has the titles " Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" and "North Coast Harbor".  Under the map titled "Downtown" in orange print is a list of attractions, also in orange print.  ** With your back to Erieside Ave & facing NORTH, Answer this question:  What is the letter & number locator code to the left of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?   Message or email me the correct answer to receive credit for the find.  DO NOT put the answer in your log.  Doing so will get your log deleted.

Optional and encouraged information to put in your log:  Where are you visiting from ( city, state, country)?  Who is your favorite inductee?  Include a picture of yourself, whether it's outside or inside The Rock Hall.

** Congratulations to Tibibacsi for FTF honors! **
