Do you suppose there is anyone that doesn't recognize Bob Ross as "that guy on TV that paints happy little trees and clouds"..?
Who could forget the smile on his face as he slapped the brush back and forth across the leg of his easel, to dry it out a bit..? And then said something like... "just beat the devil out of it.?"
And of course, his smooth, gentle voice settling in your ears, as he described each move and the methods he used, to create the landscape he envisioned, so you could see it too. There were no mistakes... just happy accidents..😎❤️.

Bob joined the United States Air Force when he was 18, and served for 20 years before he retired. Early during that period of time, while stationed in Alaska, he took his first painting lessons through the USO, and sold paintings on gold mining pans to tourists. I wonder how many of them are still hanging on the walls of homes around the country..? He learned the "wet-on-wet" method of painting from Bill Alexander, and that allowed him to create a painting within 30 minutes. Eventually his income from those sales surpassed his military earnings, and he retired in 1981. He is most famous for the TV series, "The Joy of Painting", which premiered in 1983 and ran for 11 years on more than 200+ PBS stations around the country. In 1995 he died of Lymphoma, at the age of 52.
After his death, some controversy developed between the family and the owners of Bob Ross, Inc, concerning the use of his name and likeness, which you can investigate on your own. After some litigation, his son Steve was permitted to pursue his own career in painting without threat of lawsuit, and BRI has rights to use Bobs name and likeness.
I hope you take a few minutes to appreciate the legacy and impact that Bob Ross had on people around the world. Some have admitted that they have never seen an entire episode of The Joy of Painting, because it was so soothing that they fell asleep. Bob has been described as the Godfather of ASMR, (autonomous sensory meridian response... yeah, it's a real thing) and was aware that some viewers would watch for non-instructional purposes..LOL. As for those that would fall asleep, he once quipped, "I love hearing that you never watched a full episode of me"..!
