The island of Burano is, with the nearby Murano and Torcello, one of the most famous islands of the lagoon. As soon as you arrive in Burano, you will immediately be enchanted by the tranquility of the island and the typical houses in bright colors that are reflected on the waters of the canals, creating great plays of light. Then head towards the city center, where you will find the Lace Museum, the Church of San Martino, the Leaning Tower and the most famous restaurants and bars of Burano, the ideal place for a pleasant break.
The memory of Burano, which remains indelible in many visitors and makes him famous, is the custom of painting the houses with bright colors, the reason and origin of which are not yet clear. One hypothesis is that each color refers to a specific family, since only a few surnames are still widely used in Burano today. For this reason, as in many other towns in the Veneto region, here a nickname ("detto" called) is added to the surname, to distinguish the different branches of the family. Another hypothesis, however, is that in the past the houses were painted with bright colors so that fishermen could easily find their houses even in thick fog, a very common phenomenon on the island. Nowadays, the colored houses represent an important historical and cultural heritage for Burano, which its inhabitants constantly maintain, often restoring and painting their houses.
In the most famous square of the island, Piazza Galuppi, stands the church of San Martino Vescovo, which is now the only church on the island. It is famous for its leaning bell tower and only one side entrance.
From Cavallino, Burano can be reached by the ACTV water buses, which often connect the island with the port of Treporti or Punta Sabbioni.

Appena arrivati a Burano, rimarrete subito incantati dalla tranquillità dell'isola e dalle tipiche case dai colori vivaci che si riflettono sulle acque dei canali, creando grandi giochi di luce. Dirigetevi poi verso il centro città, dove troverete il Museo del Merletto, la Chiesa di San Martino, la Torre Pendente e i ristoranti e bar più famosi di Burano, il luogo ideale per una piacevole pausa.
Il ricordo di Burano, che rimane indelebile in molti visitatori e lo rende famoso, è l'usanza di dipingere le case con colori vivaci, il cui motivo e la cui origine non sono ancora chiari. Un'ipotesi è che ogni colore si riferisca a una famiglia specifica, dal momento che solo pochi cognomi sono ancora oggi ampiamente utilizzati a Burano. Heutzutage stellen die farbigen Häuser ein wichtiges historisches und kulturelles Erbe für Burano dar, das seine Bewohner ständig pflegen, ihre Häuser häufig restaurieren und streichen.
Auf dem berühmtesten Platz der Insel, der Piazza Galuppi, steht die Kirche San Martino Vescovo, die heute die einzige Kirche der Insel ist. Sie ist berühmt für ihren schiefen Glockenturm und nur einen Seiteneingang.
Von Cavallino ist Burano mit den ACTV-Wasserbussen erreichbar, die die Insel häufig mit dem Hafen von Treporti oder von Punta Sabbioni verbinden.
