Castello Ba6radello
Il Castel Baradello (in comasco Casjtell del Baradell) sorge sull'omonimo colle (430 m s.l.m.) che domina la città di Como, chiudendo sul lato sud-ovest la convalle.
Dal colle si gode un panorama che spazia dal lago alla città, dalle cime delle Alpi alla pianura Padana fino agli Appennini: il suo massiccio torrione a base quadrata è ben visibile per chi giunge a Como.
L'origine etimologica del toponimo Baradello è riconducibile alla radice indoeuropea bar che significa luogo elevato.
La struttura meglio conservata dell'intero complesso è la torre quadrata romanica, la cui base misura m 8.20 x m 8.35. La parte più bassa, alta m 19,50, poggia le fondazioni sulla roccia ed era anticamente adornata da merli di tipo guelfo, la parte sommitale, più recente, alta m 8, anticamente merlata con merli di tipo ghibellino.[1]
L'altezza complessiva della torre era di m 28. Dell'antica imponenza manca solo la merlatura.
Il primo ordine di mura che circonda la torre è la struttura più antica, di epoca bizantina, del VI - VII secolo.
Lo storico Giorgio di Cipro nella sua "Descriptio orbis romani" del 604 accenna al castron Baractelia insieme al castron Leuci (Lecco), al castron Marturion (Castelmarte) ed all'Isola Comacina. Tutte queste fortificazioni erano inserite in un complesso sistema difensivo di confine chiamato Limes bizantino.
LA CACHE SI TROVA ALL'ESTERNO DEL CASTELLO, nel periodo invernale rimane chiuso (per gli orari di apertura leggere la locandina nel listing)

Baradello Castle
Baradello Castle (in the Como dialect Castell del Baradell) stands on the hill of the same name (430 m above sea level) that dominates the city of Como, closing the valley on the south-west side.
From the hill you can enjoy a panorama that ranges from the lake to the city, from the peaks of the Alps to the Po Valley to the Apennines: its massive square-based tower is clearly visible for those arriving in Como.
The etymological origin of the toponym Baradello can be traced back to the Indo-European root bar, meaning high place.
The best preserved structure of the entire complex is the Romanesque square tower, whose base measures 8.20 x 8.35 m. The lowest part, 19.50 m high, rests its foundations on the rock and was formerly adorned with Guelph-type battlements, the upper part, more recent, 8 m high, was formerly crenellated with Ghibelline-type battlements.[1]
The overall height of the tower was 28 m. Only the battlements are missing from the ancient grandeur.
The first order of walls surrounding the tower is the oldest structure, from the Byzantine era, from the 6th - 7th century.
The historian George of Cyprus in his "Descriptio orbis romani" of 604 mentions the castron Baractelia together with the castron Leuci (Lecco), the castron Marturion (Castelmarte) and Isola Comacina. All these fortifications were part of a complex border defense system called the Byzantine Limes.
