On the morning of November 29, 1864, the village of the friendly Cheyenne and Arapaho were brutally attacked by the Colorado Volunteer Cavalry at Sand Creek. The majority of the villagers were women and children.
You will be doing a fair amount of driving and reading. Dress appropriately for the weather, drink water, and watch for rattlesnakes (seasonal).
If you wish to visit the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, please check their site for the operating hours and closures ahead of time. This will be very disappointing if you arrive and it is closed.
