Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), which first opened its doors in 1952, is more than just a gateway—it's a reflection of the vibrant spirit and culture of the 412. Originally designed as Greater Pittsburgh Airport, it quickly became a vital regional and national travel hub, with its innovative layout setting standards for modern airport design. Today, PIT seamlessly blends its historical roots with the city's forward-thinking identity. From its steel-inspired architecture to local art installations and eateries showcasing Pittsburgh’s iconic flavors, the airport embodies the resilience, innovation, and community spirit that have defined the city for decades.

Star-Lit Canopy

Reflecting the vast expanse of Pennsylvania's wilderness, a star-lit canopy will welcome you into the *new* Pittsburgh International Airport. Featuring more than 4,500 constellations lights, tree support columns, and wood-like ceilings, this new airport addition is a thing of pure art.


What Does Luggage Think About

Air travelers know the mix of stress and relief that comes with retrieving luggage from baggage claim, and Pittsburgh-based artist John Peña is capturing that feeling in his work. For the new Pittsburgh International Airport terminal, Peña is created four oversized suitcase sculptures with word balloons featuring mechanical split-flap displays that convey messages from the luggage itself.

Fraley's Robot Repair

Check out Fraley's Robot Repair Shop: an interactive art installation located right here in the airport. At Fraley's, you can immerse yourself in a world of innovation and take a look at the various robots built from recycled items.


Western Pennsylvania Tuskegee Airmen Display

The Western Pennsylvania Tuskegee Airmen is a memorial and cultural display that commemorates the Tuskegee Airmen who fought in WWII. The display, which is a room with an open wall, utilizes text and photos to honor the Tuskegee Airmen.

Doppelgänger by Colin Piepgras

Doppelgänger is a metal and glass artwork by Colin Piepgras who has worked closely with the Field of Robotics Center at Carnegie Mellon University. The piece is a record of an exoskeleton created by the artists in an attempt to reconcile high-tech employment with low-tech artist production.

Passenger Piano Free the Music: Cue Perry

Sit down and play us a song! Quentin's display consists of a bright and colorful piano based on his love of graffiti, neo-plasticism, and abstract expressionism.

Andy Warhol Wall Art

Proudly representing Pittsburgh, the well-known artist, Andy Warhol, is a native of this area. Famous for revolutionizing art through his Pop Art movement, creating iconic works that blended popular culture, consumerism, and mass production, his impact still lives on today!

Confluence by Talley Fisher

Confluence is a suspended sculpture by artist Talley Fisher, who draws inspiration from her deep interest in science and the natural world. The suspended sculpture, with ripples of blue and aqua flowing through the concourse, honors and symbolizes the three great rivers of Pittsburgh.


Virtual Rewards 4.0 - 2024-2025
