Am 17. Juni 2016 wurde ein neuer geodätischer Referenzpunkt für den Landkreis Fürth vor dem naheliegenden bekannten Freizeitpark eröffnet. Die Einweihung erfolgte durch Staatsminister Dr. Markus Söder. Da steht er seitdem nun und sieht ein bisschen aus wie eine Mischung aus Bistrotisch und Radarfalle. Ein silbernes Edelstahlkästchen mit ein paar Zahlen und einem Fadenkreuz drauf, bewacht von einer kindsgroßen Spielfigur: der neue Geodätische Referenzpunkt im Landkreis Fürth.
Es handelt sich dabei um einen Referenzpunkt des weltweiten Positionsbestimmungssystems GPS, jener satellitenbasierten Technologie, die in jedem Navigationssystem und den meisten Handys ihren Dienst tut – ein sonst unsichtbares, weltweites Koordinatensystem.
Der Geodätische Referenzpunkt ist auf Edelstahl graviert. Hier können die aktuellen Koordinaten des GPS-Gerätes mit den vorgegebenen verglichen werden.
Die amtlichen Koordinaten des Punktes sind:
- 49° 25,8558‘ nördl. Breite
- 10° 56,5020' östl. Länge
- 322,1 Meter über NN
So überprüfen ihr euer GPS-Gerät:
- Stellt euer GPS-Gerät auf das Bezugssystem WGS84 und das Koordinatensystem auf Geographisch oder UTM ein.
- Gebt die Koordinaten des Referenzpunkts als Ziel ein.
- Legt euer GPS-Gerät auf den Referenzpunkt und lasst die Differenz zur Zielkoordinate anzeigen.
Wie funktioniert eine Standortbestimmung mit GPS?
- Die GPS-Satelliten teilen dem GPS-Gerät ihre genaue Position und Uhrzeit mit.
- Aus diesen Werten errechnet das GPS-Gerät den Abstand zu den Satelliten.
- Für eine Positionsbestimmung werden gleichzeitig mindestens vier GPS-Satelliten benötigt.
- Das GPS-Gerät berechnet aus den errechneten Abständen zu den Satelliten die Koordinaten des Standorts auf der Erde.
Deine Aufgabe, um diesen Virtual Reward zu loggen:
Mache vor Ort ein Foto von Dir, Deinem GPS-Gerät oder einem persönlichem Gegenstand mit dem geodätischen Referenzpunkt und füge dies Deinem Online-Fundlog bei (das Bild NICHT in einer Note hochladen, sondern durch Editieren des Fundlogs an diesen anhängen, solltet ihr das beim Upload vergessen haben). Ein korrektes Bild muss an JEDEM Fundlog hängen.

On 17 June 2016, a new geodetic reference point for the district of Fürth was opened in front of the nearby well-known theme park. The inauguration was performed by Minister of State Dr. Markus Söder. It has been there ever since and looks a bit like a mixture of bistro table and speed trap. A silver stainless steel box with a few numbers and a crosshair on it, guarded by a child-sized play figure: the new geodetic reference point in the district of Fürth.
It is a reference point of the global positioning system GPS, the satellite-based technology that is used in every navigation system and most mobile phones - an otherwise invisible, global coordinate system.
The geodetic reference point is engraved on stainless steel. Here, the current coordinates of the GPS device can be compared with the specified coordinates.
The official coordinates of the point are:
- 49° 25.8558' north latitude
- 10° 56.5020' east longitude
- 322.1 metres above sea level
To check your GPS device:
- Set your GPS device to the reference system WGS84 and the coordinate system to Geographic or UTM.
- Enter the coordinates of the reference point as the destination.
- Place your GPS device on the reference point and display the difference to the target coordinate.How does location determination with GPS work?
- The GPS satellites inform the GPS device of their exact position and time.
- The GPS device uses these values to calculate the distance to the satellites.
- At least four GPS satellites are required simultaneously to determine a position.
- The GPS device calculates the coordinates of the location on earth from the calculated distances to the satellites.
Your task to claim this virtual reward cache as found:
Take a picture on site of yourself, your GPS device or a personal object with the geodetic reference point and attach it to your online found-log (DO NOT upload the image in a note, but by editing the found-log and attaching it to this if you forgot to do so during the upload). Each found-log has to contain a correct picture.
