Kesslerloch, am Anfang war das Feuer
Das Kesslerloch bei Thayngen zählt zu den wichtigsten altsteinzeitlichen Fundplätzen Europas. Erste Spuren der Besiedelung wurden 1873 entdeckt. Bei den Ausgrabungen in den folgenden Jahren kamen tausende Funde zum Vorschein. Die ältesten Funde wurden auf über 15000 Jahren datiert.
Seinen Namen hat das Kesslerloch von modernen Nomaden. Bis ins 19. Jahrhundert diente die Höhle immer wieder als Unterschlupf für Menschen auf Wanderschaft. Als Schrottsammler, fliegende Holländer, Wanderhandwerker und insbesondere als Pfannenflicker wurden sie in der Ostschweiz auch Kessler genannt. Schon früh erkannten die Menschen die Wichtigkeit des Feuers. Das Feuer bot Wärme, Licht und Schutz vor Raubtieren, vor allem wurde das Nahrungsangebot erweitert. In der Nähe der Höhle hat es auch eine Feuerstelle zum Grillieren.

Begib dich in die Höhle und mache ein Foto, darauf bist du erkennbar(nicht zwingend), halte einen Zettel oder einen anderen Gegenstand mit deinem GC-Benutzername und dem aktuellen Datum in den Händen. Toll wäre es, wenn auch noch ein Feuer auf irgend eine Art auf dem Foto zu sehen ist. Du darfst aber nichts zerstören! Sei kreativ und habt Spass. Willkommen in der Steinzeit.
Kesslerloch, in the beginning was the fire
The Kesslerloch near Thayngen is one of the most important Palaeolithic sites in Europe.
The first traces of settlement were discovered in 1873.
Excavations in the following years uncovered thousands of finds. The oldest finds were dated to over 15,000 years ago.
The Kesslerloch takes its name from modern nomads. Until the 19th century, the cave was repeatedly used as a shelter for people on the move. As scrap collectors, flying Dutchmen, itinerant craftsmen and especially as pan makers, they were also called Kessler in eastern Switzerland.
People recognized the importance of fire early on. Fire provided warmth, light and protection from predators and, above all, increased the food supply.
There is also a barbecue site near the cave.

Go into the cave and take a photo, you are recognizable on it(not mandatory), hold a piece of paper or another object with your GC user name and the current date in your hands.
