Monte Cristo …
… is a ghost town in Snohomish County, Washington state in the northwestern United States. It is located in the Cascade Mountains northeast of Seattle. For a short time in the 1890s it was considered the site of one of the most important silver and gold deposits in North America.
For many years I was fascinated by this place and its history. Since the former mining town is over 8000 kilometers (about 5000 miles) away from my home town, I had to wait for a very long time until my dream of visiting this place came true. In the fall of 2024 the time had finally come.
Despite being fascinated by it for it so long, Monte Cristo did not disappoint. I was very impressed by the beautiful hike to this deserted place and loved soaking up the special atmosphere. And now you can do the same – and complete the tasks for this virtual in the process.

The Virtual
In order to log this virtual cache you will need to do the following:
1. Take three pictures:
In the Monte Cristo area, look for the 3 signs from the photos in the description. Take a picture of yourself with each of the signs (your face does not necessarily have to be visible). Whether you are in the picture or not, make sure to include a sign with your geocaching username in every photo. Upload all three pictures with your log.
2. Answer the following questions and send them to the CO:
a) What does it say on the back of the sign in photo #1?
b) What is the distance between the two posts that this sign rests on? You might want to bring a measuring tape to answer that one.
Please send me, the CO, the answers to both questions via email or message center. You can log the cache online immediately. If your answers are wrong or incomplete, I will contact you.
If you do not fulfill the log requirements stated above (pictures via log and answers via email/message),your log will be deleted without comment.
Optional task (not a logging requirement):
Bring a Monte Cristo sandwich and incorporate it in one of your photos.
Recipe:
* Place two slices of white bread on a flat surface. Spread mustard on one slice and mayonnaise on the other.
* Add thin slices of ham and shredded gruyere cheese on top of the mustard and cover the cheese with the other part of the sandwich. In a nonstick pan over medium heat, melt some butter.
* In a shallow bowl, add the eggs and whisk them until the egg whites and yolks are incorporated. Carefully dip both sides of the sandwiches in the egg mixture. Fry them in the melted butter on both sides for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
