Altötting - das Herz Bayerns
In der Gnadenkapelle fanden neben drei Körperbestattungen über einen Zeitraum von mehr als 300 Jahren auch 28 Herzbestattungen statt.
Darunter mehrere Kurfürsten, sechs bayrische Könige und ein Kaiser. Der heute bekannteste davon ist König Ludwig II von Bayern.
Der Begriff “Altötting — Herz Bayerns” bezieht sich jedoch nicht auf die Tatsache, dass hier die meisten Herzbestattungen stattfanden, sondern darauf, dass der Ort seit Jahrhunderten das christlich-religiöse Zentrum Bayerns ist.
Wer die Gnadenkapelle sieht, ist beeindruckt von den unterschiedlich großen Votivbildern, die man in der Kapelle und im Umgang entdecken kann. Der Betrachter findet circa 2.000 Votivtafeln. Diese Tafeln sind Zeitzeugen für eine über 500-jährige Marienwallfahrt in Altötting.
Die Tafeln werden als Zeichen für eine Rettung aus Not, Gefahr oder Krankheit gespendet. Somit sind die Tafeln ein Spiegel für die Nöte der letzten Jahrhunderte und ein Zeichen von tiefer Religiosität und Dankbarkeit. Die Tafeln sind aber nur ein kleiner Teil von denen, die hierhergebracht wurden. Insgesamt wurden ca. 50.000 Tafeln nach Altötting gebracht.
Gehe nun durch den Rundgang und betrachte die vielen Votivtafeln.

Mache im Umgang der Gnadenkapelle ein Foto von einem persönlichen Gegenstand (oder optional ein Selfie) und füge es deinem Logeintrag bei. Dein Gesicht muss nicht zu erkennen sein. Im Hintergrund sollten die Votivtafeln zu sehen sein.

Altötting - the heart of Bavaria
Over a period of more than 300 years, 28 heart burials took place in the Gnadenkapelle [Chapel of Mercy] in addition to three body burials.
These included several electors, six Bavarian kings and one emperor. The most famous of these today is King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
However, the term "Altötting - Heart of Bavaria" does not refer to the fact that most heart burials took place here, but to the fact that the town has been the Christian religious center of Bavaria for centuries.
Visitors to the Gnadenkapelle [Chapel of Mercy] will be impressed by the votive pictures of various sizes that can be found in the chapel and around it. The viewer will find around 2,000 votive tablets. These panels are contemporary witnesses to over 500 years of Marian pilgrimage in Altötting.
The tablets are donated as a sign of salvation from distress, danger or illness. The plaques are therefore a reflection of the hardships of recent centuries and a sign of deep religiousness and gratitude. However, the plaques are only a small part of those that have been brought here. A total of around 50,000 tablets were brought to Altötting.
