This St. Charles County Parks site includes the home in which Boone lived out his last days, a reconstructed 19th century village and a gift shop. The house is interesting and the Old Peace Chapel in the village is very picturesque. Visitors are welcome to walk the grounds of the park for free. Guided tours of the house are available, for a fee.

You may not be old enough to remember the 1964 TV series about Boone, starring Fess Parker, but if you are the theme song may just have gotten stuck in your head (you're welcome). It is said that the show was highly fictionalized with very little historical accuracy, but here are some of the song's words describing ol' Dan:
Daniel Boone was a man, Yes, a big man.
With an eye like an eagle, And as tall as a mountain was he.
He was brave, he was fearless, And as tough as a mighty oak tree!
With a knife and a gun he never did fail, There was nothin' he could not tame.
With a whoop and a holler, He could mow down a forest of trees.
Hopefully as you tour the site you will learn some more accurate things about his life including that he was a blacksmith, land surveyor and business man, as well as a frontiersman and judge. One of his "Judgement Trees" is said to be located on the property.
