Forever Marilyn is a larger than life statue of Marilyn Monroe designed by Seward Johnson. The statue is a representation of the photograph of Monroe taken from Billy Wilder's 1955 film The Seven Year Itch.
Created in 2011, the 26-foot-tall (7.9 m) 34,000-pound (15,000 kg) sculpture, is constructed of painted stainless steel and aluminium. In describing his sculpture of Marilyn, Johnson said, "There is something about her pose; the exuberance for life without inhibition, which is quintessentially American. It expresses an uninhibited sense of our own vibrancy."
The statue first came to Palm Springs in 2012 and stayed until 2014. The statue has been displayed in a variety of locations in the United States, as well as in Australia. It returned to Palm Springs at this location in 2021 after it was purchased by Palm Springs Resorts. Palm Springs considers Marilyn to be one of its own since she was a regular visitor and a big part of the movie and celebrity scene here in her day.
