The Niagara Glen or "The Gorge" as my Dad used to call it was his favourite place in the world. When I recieved this virtual I knew I would be placing it here in his memory. My Dad, Gerry wasn't an avid geocacher but he did join us a time or two to see what it was all about. My Dad was a funny guy, he was that person that was always there for you, whether he was your brother, son, father or friend. He was an amazing grandfather. He grew up in the Niagara area, the Glen was a place he'd been to many times over the years. As soon as my kids were old enough he took them for a weekend hike there. My youngest didn't have the chance to go with him. When we placed the virtual it was his first time visting and it was wonderful. I hope you enjoy your visit to the Niagara Glen.
Niagara Glen Information
Discover some of nature’s most beautiful and mysterious creations at the Niagara Glen. Located deep in the Niagara Gorge, stairways lead to four kilometres (2.5 miles) of rugged hiking paths that wind through this pristine pocket of Carolinian Forest, past prehistoric geological formations, wild flora and fauna. The Niagara Glen overlooks the rapid waters of the Niagara River and the natural phenomenon that is the Niagara River Whirlpool.
The Glen is open from sunrise to sunset. Please visit https://www.niagaraparks.com/visit/attractions/niagara-glen to check on the hours prior to planning your visit.
There is no winter maintenance at the Glen. The hike can be challenging. I recommend doing it in good weather.
Dogs are allowed on leash. The stairs to get down to the Glen are metal and can be a challenge for dogs. I know Sadie wouldn't make it down. I have included a picture in the gallery so you can determine if your dog would be able to handle them.
There is a fee for parking. At the time of placement it was $8.00 an hour. It took just under two hours to place the virtual and do the hike. I recommend a minimum of two hours, especially if you plan to visit the other caches on the trails here.
How to claim a find:
1 - Visit each of the waypoints and take a photo or document the required information. You can include ALL FOUR photos with your log or send them to me in a geocaching message along with the answers to the two questions. Please DO NOT post answers in your log.
2 - Rules for Photos - Photos can include yourself (face optional) at the photo spot OR a sheet of paper with your geocaching name at EACH photo spot. NO GROUP NAMES will be accepted. The peson logging must have their name on the paper. Names must be visable in the photo and eligable.
