Geocache Description:

Kasneje so zasadili divje kostanje.

Grobišča v Emoni so po rimskem običaju stala izven mestnega obzidja. Ob kipu so bili žgani ostanki pokojnika in nekateri drugi predmeti.

Park zvezda (The Star Park) in the Center of Ljubljana was arranged in 1984. Until the mid-19th century, a Capuchin monastery with gardens stood on this site. It got its name due to the symmetrical, star-shaped layout of paths running across the entire park. This was the first public city park. The star-shaped design was a common form of parks in Europe at that time, popularized by the French. Initially, the park was planted with sycamore trees, which have a short lifespan. Later, wild chestnuts were planted. During the wars, Plečnik paved Congress Square, surrounded the park with stone pillars, and replaced chestnuts with plane trees that still stand today. There is a fountain in the park, in the same location where it was during the time of the Capuchin monastery.

On the south side of the square is the University building, formerly the provincial palace, where the mentioned congress took place. From here, one of the most beautiful views of Ljubljana Castle opens up as well.

Not far away is the building of the Slovenian Philharmonic, next to it a Biedermeier house, the headquarters of the oldest publishing house in Slovenia - Slovenian Matica, founded in 1894. The northern part of the square is bordered by the neoclassical building of the Kozina.

In Star Park, which occupies the central part of the square, there are several landmarks.

Among the remains of the walls of ancient Emona, a copy of the gilded bronze statue of an Emonian patrician is placed on a stone pillar, found in 1836 next to the Kozina building. In Roman Emona, this place was a cemetery. Emona's cemeteries, following Roman custom, were located outside the city walls. Next to the statue were the cremated remains of the deceased and some other objects. The latter indicate that the deceased was likely a prominent citizen who lived in the early 2nd century, during the reign of Emperor Trajan.

Opposite the Ursuline Church since 1927 stands a copy of the Sign of the Holy Trinity, allegedly made by Francesco Robba in 1722. The original is kept in the City Museum of Ljubljana.

On the other side of the park stands a picturesque music pavilion, erected in the twenties of the last century for socializing with live music. During the war, understandably, it fell silent and until 1960, when it was removed, served more or less as a refuge for Ljubljana pigeons. He heard very little music, except that from the halls of the dance school Kazina, which stood opposite him for many years. It was re-erected in 1989, albeit in a different location - in the immediate vicinity of the legendary Plane tree. Occasionally, the entire square transforms into a kind of parallel world, providing a special musical background to bourgeois evenings.

In the park, there is also the Anchor monument, which was placed here in 1954 thanks to the Slovenian captain Branko Velkaverh as a memorial to the annexation of Primorska to the motherland, with the year 510, representing the arrival of the Slavs in this area. Before that, in the same place for about a year (1940-41), there was a bronze equestrian monument to Yugoslav King Alexander I. Karađorđević, the equestrian is the work of Lojze Dolinar, which the Italians removed in 1941 after the occupation of Ljubljana during World War II. There is also a myth that the anchor on display is from the Italian ocean liner Rex, which was sunk off the Slovenian coast at the end of the war, but this is not true.

Park Zvezda is not just a collection of green spaces and well-kept paths. It's an oasis of peace and relaxation. When you step into it, you're embraced by a sense of tranquility brought by the greenery and the rustle of trees. For many, Park Zvezda is a place they retreat to when they need a moment to themselves, away from the fast pace of city life. During the day, you can hear the laughter of children and the whispers of lovers on the benches, while in the evenings, it comes alive with the sounds of music and events brought by concerts and performances.

To log this virtual cache as found, you must complete the following tasks:

  1. In the park, find the pavilion. How many triangular surfaces is the ceiling of the pavilion composed of?
  2. In the park, find the anchor. On the platform with the anchor, there is a metal plate with nine words. What is the first word on the plate?
  3. Send the answers to the above two questions with your GC nickname to #xxxxxx@gmail.com. Replace # with the number of triangular surfaces and xxxxxx with the first word from the metal plate (e.g., 4matic@gmail.com).
  4. In your journal entry, share a photo of yourself or your personal item with the picturesque Ljubljana Castle in the background. Let this scene envelop you with respect for history, admiration, and a sense of connection to the city of Ljubljana (a photo showing only the castle does not meet the logging requirements).

IMPORTANT:

If all tasks are not completed, your log will be deleted without warning.

Do not enter the solution in the log entry.
