Geocache Description:

Did you know Casper Mountain has a trail that is accessible for the blind? The Braille Trail is a one-of-a-kind experience most anyone can do. The trail is approximately 1,900 feet in length, and includes guide rails so that those who can not see, can experience nature the way it is meant to be. It also offers special glasses that will blur your vision, so you can experience the trail in a diferent way. Along the trail are signs that explain what you are seeing or hearing. For those who can not see, the plaque also has braille, hence the name of this trail. Note: the trail does have changes in elevation and rocks that could potentially trip someone. Be mindful if you choose to walk it.

The creation of this trail in the 1970s was thanks to the Casper Mountain Lions Club, Wyoming Field Science Foundation, and teachers Ed Strube, Dana Van Burgh and Mary Katherman. It has been maintained many times since opening. Locals usually call it the "Braille Trail", and schools sometimes bring their students up here on field trips. The full name is the Lee McCune Braille Trail.

This place is special to me, as I spent many hours exploring this area many moons ago. I have included the poisonous plants attribute because there may be poison ivy in places some months of the year. Ratings reflect the trail itself, not the sign. Strube loop is one way only.

NOTE: The trail is normally not open in the winter months due to snow. The road nearby is used for cross country skiing during those times. It would be best to come to this trail only when Strube Loop is open.

To qualify for this virtual geocache, take a picture of you or your group, or just your gps, in front of the main large sign for the trail. There is no need to send me an email, just post the picture and you can log it. Feel free to get creative.

Log entries without pictures are subject to deletion. Please actually go to the location! You won't regret it!
