South Australia is the driest state on the driest permanently inhabited continent on Earth. The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden showcases a diverse collection of arid plants from a variety of different arid zones. The garden was established in the 1980's and in the 1990s saw the employment of the garden’s first full-time staff member. In 1996 The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden was officially opened to the public. It is an initiative of the City of Port Augusta and corporate funding, and very limited State Government support. Take a stroll along the Highlights walk which is only 800 meters long and suitable for wheelchairs as it is a gravel track.
The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden is open Monday to Sunday from 7:30 am to sunset and entry is free.
