De Sint-Annatunnel of Voetgangerstunnel is met zijn authentieke houten roltrappen een echt historisch pareltje. Wandel of fiets langs deze eyecatcher van de binnenstad naar Linkeroever waar je een prachtig zicht hebt op de Antwerpse skyline.
Brug of tunnel?
Al in 1874 waren de Antwerpenaars het eens over een verbinding tussen de linker- en rechteroever van de stad. Er bestonden heel wat plannen om een brug over de Schelde te bouwen, maar die werden steeds afgeblazen. Vooral omdat een brug het scheepverkeer te hard zou hinderen.
Uiteindelijk duurde het nog tot 1931 voor de beslissing werd genomen in het voordeel van een tunnel. Tot op vandaag zijn de meeste delen van de toegangsgebouwen en de tunnel nog steeds origineel, van de waarschuwingsborden tot de hekken.
Springlevende geschiedenis
De tunnel wordt nu nog heel intensief gebruikt door bewoners die dagelijks van de ene oever naar de andere moeten. Bij een bezoek aan Antwerpen is het zeker de moeite om via de Voetgangerstunnel naar Linkeroever te gaan. Niet alleen voor het prachtige uitzicht op de Antwerpse skyline dat je daar hebt, maar ook om deze historische parel in het hart van de stad van nabij te bewonderen.
Lift of authentieke houten roltrap
Om af te dalen naar de tunnel kan je kiezen voor de authentieke houten roltrappen of voor de lift en dit aan beide zijden van de tunnel. De authentieke houten roltrappen vangen meteen je blik. Samen met de tunnel is dit een gegeerde instagram- en fotohotspot. Ben je met de fiets? Dan is de lift misschien een comfortabeler en een sneller alternatief. De liften zijn ruim en brengen je snel naar de tunnel.

Hoe deze virtual loggen?
Uiteraard moet je NIET in de Schelde springen om deze virtual te loggen, maar neem je gewoon de tunnel.
Ga naar het midden van de 572m lange tunnel en neem daar een foto van jezelf, gps of nickname, waarop te zien is dat "GIJ HALVERWEGE ZIJT"
Omdat je onderwater bent, neem je deze foto samen met een attribuut dat je onderwater gebruikt, bv. een duikbril, snorkel, zwemvliezen of een duikboot...wees origineel! Een handdoek gebruik je niet onderwater.
Voeg deze foto bij je log en geef de foto de naam van je onderwater attribuut.

The Sint-Anna Tunnel is a real historical gem with its authentic wooden escalators. Walk or cycle past this eye-catcher from the city center to the Linkeroever where you have a beautiful view of the Antwerp skyline.
Bridge or tunnel?
As early as 1874, the people of Antwerp agreed on a connection between the left and right banks of the city. There were many plans to build a bridge over the Schelde, but they were always canceled. Especially because a bridge would hinder shipping traffic too much.
Ultimately, it took until 1931 before the decision was made in favor of a tunnel. To this day, most parts of the entrance buildings and tunnel are still original, from the warning signs to the fences.
Lively history
The tunnel is still used very intensively by residents who have to get from one bank to the other every day. When visiting Antwerp, it is definitely worthwhile to go to Linkeroever via the Pedestrian Tunnel. Not only for the beautiful view of the Antwerp skyline that you have there, but also to admire this historic pearl in the heart of the city up close.
Elevator or authentic wooden escalator
To descend to the tunnel you can choose the authentic wooden escalators or the elevator on both sides of the tunnel. The authentic wooden escalators immediately catch your eye. Together with the tunnel, this is a sought-after Instagram and photo hotspot. Are you by bike? Then the elevator might be a more comfortable and faster alternative. The elevators are spacious and take you quickly to the tunnel.

How to log this virtual?
Of course you do NOT have to jump into the Schelde to log this virtual, but just take the tunnel.
Go to the middle of the 572m long tunnel and take a photo of yourself, GPS or nickname, showing that "you are halfway" "HIER ZIJT GIJ HALVERWEGE"
Because you are underwater, take a photo along with an attribute that you use underwater, e.g. diving goggles, snorkel, fins or a diving boat... be original! You don't use a towel underwater.
Add this photo to your log and give the picture the name of your underwater attribute.
