The Beacon of Hope or Thanksgiving Square Beacon is a public art metal sculpture by Andy Scott. It stands at 19.5 metres high and was constructed in 2007 in Thanksgiving Square in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Beacon of Hope
The sculpture is the result of six years of planning, development and eventual construction. Made of stainless steel and cast bronze, she spirals upwards and holds a ring aloft reaching out towards the River Lagan. This ring symbolises a 'ring of thanksgiving'. The figure represents various allegorical themes associated with hope and aspiration, peace and reconciliation and is derived from images from Classical and Celtic mythology. Her position on the globe signifies a uniformed approach to life on this earth. It encompasses oneness while celebrating the diversity of culture that exists in our global village.
The aim of the sculpture is to bring people together and to change hearts and minds, to make bridges across the divides in our community. To work towards a peaceful, happy existence for everyone on this planet by respect for each other, their cultural heritages and all our aspirations.
The globe she stands on is of the world where countries and certain cities are marked. They were the cities around the world where Belfast exported industry to, such as ships and linen. The globe indicates the universal philosophy of peace, harmony and thanksgiving.
As an icon for Belfast it has been adopted by Belfast City Council, tourism authorities, TV companies and several businesses as an emblem and logo; and in early October 2006 was recognised as the best artwork in the city by the Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
However, if you live locally you may know this sculpture by other names, such as 'The Thing with the Ring' or 'Nuala with the Hula'. I prefer the latter, 'Nuala with the Hula'.
