Geocache Description:

In the 1960’s, a new type of advertising came about in the form of various towering fiberglass giants known as Muffler Men. These giants seemed to be a short-lived phenomenon though as by the 1970’s their popularity subsided, and they slowly started to become an eyesore. Because of this, dozens were torn down and disposed of.

Today, nostalgia is driving a resurgence in these Muffler Men. There have not only been current restorations, but even new reproductions of these giants have been made. One of the newer restorations stands along Route 66 at the edge of Uranus, Missouri. At 22-feet tall, the Mega Mayor was installed in 2021. The giant Mayor was constructed from a 1960’s Muffler Man that ended up in a junkyard. Fiberglass artist Mark Cline reassembled the pieces to make a mold of the body, and then he customized it to the likeness of Louie Keen, the mayor of Uranus. In his red, white and blue all-American outfit, this Mayor is a sight to behold.

To claim this virtual reward, post a picture along with your log of you, your crew, or a sign with your name on it next to or in front of the Mega Mayor.

Please do not park or access this virtual from I-44. There is easy access with plenty of parking directly off of Route 66.

If you have time, take a walk around Uranus, it’s a fun place to visit.
