Geocache Description:

Elias Disney, a carpenter, with a growing family decided to build a house and settle in Chicago. He purchased the property at this location in October 1891. In November 1892, Elias obtained his permit to build the 2 story wood cottage for $800. Flora, Elias' wife, drew up the architectural plans for the home. Elias built the house and in early 1893 the Disney Family moved in.

On December 5, 1901 Walter Elias Disney (Walt Disney) was born on the second floor of this home located on the corner of Tripp Avenue. Walt Disney was the 4th child born to Elias and Flora Disney.

The Disney family remained in this home until early 1906. Elias sold the property to Walter Chamberlain and moved his family to Marceline, Missouri.

In 1991, the City of Chicago attempted to designate this property as a historical landmark; but the owner fought the designation and won putting the home at risk for demolition.

After years of neglect, the home was purchased with the intent to restore it to it's 1901 state. Current owners, Dina Benadon and Brent Young, purchased the home in 2013 for $169,000. They are working with the City of Chicago to protect the home and its history.
