The BIG Pineapple - Queenslands biggest and most iconic structure.
Positioned on the Nambour Connection Road, Woombye on the crest of a hill and overlooking the motorway, the Big Pineapple structure is important an a landmark. It is strikingly visible to passing traffic and provides sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Within the Big Pineapple complex, the plantation's sloping terrain, rainforest and selection of crops provide pleasing vistas for visitors as they tour the place.
The 2-level Big Pineapple is a hollow structure, 16 metres (52 ft) high with the internals the shell unlined. It is divided into two levels for the purpose of exhibiting displays and for accessing the viewing platform above, it was originally opened on 15 August 1971. The Big Pineapple is a heritage-listed tourist attraction of the Sunshine Coast Region. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 6 March 2009
It is situated on a 165-hectare (410-acre) site and holds a fond place in the memories of many domestic and overseas tourists who drove or were driven north of Brisbane on holiday road trips after 1971. Apart from the iconic value of the Big Pineapple structure itself, there have been other attractions added to premises for enjoyment. The Big Pineapple nutmobile ride, the Big pineapple train ride, tours of the pineapple plantation, were just some extras one could enjoy on the visit But the most rewarding was the fresh juicey pineapple and icecream at the restaurant.
Today you can still visit the location and see the Big Pineapple, the planatation of the past size has gone, but the Train is still present and walks around the area. Neighbouring to the Pineapple is an Animal Widlife Zoo which koala encounters and cafe. On the otherside there is the Tree Top Challenge and The Big Macadamia Nut which are all part of the Big Pineapple group.
