We are absolutely delighted to be chosen to put out a 'Virtual Cache.' We've pondered for a while where we would put it and then remembered how much we enjoyed Devoran Dachshund's Virtual Cache at Gribbin Head GC7B8GA so thought we'd do something similar.
We have chosen the Gwennap Head day navigation markers which are up on the cliff top at Porthgwarra. We hope you enjoy the area as much as we do. The scenery around here is beautiful and the rock formations are extremely interesting. I wonder if you will find the rock shaped like a tortoise head? There are also choughs nesting in the area so if you are very lucky you might see them.
Where to park
There is a car park near by but you only get 30 minutes free parking. You can pay by cash, contactless or Apple Pay. There are toilets and other amenities near by.
Daymarks on the headland near Gwennap Head between Porthgwarra and Land's End. These daymarks are positioned to warn ships of the Runnel Stone reef which lies around a mile off shore here. If the black and white marker is obscured by the red marker it means the ship is directly inline with submerged rocks.
Over the years the reef claimed many ships. However, the last ship to hit the rocks here took the top off the reef off, making it somewhat safer thereafter!
Now for the challenge.
1 You must send us a message via this page telling us the date on the plaque on one of the day markers at the given location.
2 You must attach a photo to your log taking in both markers and you yourselves, or your GPS, Phone, Mother-in-law, anything just to prove you have been there and done the challenge yourselves.
Red marker co-ords to assist. If you have a dog with you we'd love to see him/her in your photo. Logs without a photo attached will be deleted! You have been warned.
