From GZ, you will be able to see 3 of Cornwall's bridges (past and present)
The first bridge was the Roosevelt Swing bridge which was built in 1934. At first it was only for trains but they quickly added a lane for vehicle traffic. Two bases of the bridge can still be seen in the water.
The second bridge, the Seaway International Bridge, was officially opened July 3rd, 1962. The bridge was built high to let ships pass under, but unfortunateley it was decided to build the locks for the ships on the american side of the St-Lawrence River. Over the years, the cost of maintening the bridge was high and it was decided that it was cheaper to build a new bridge. The Seaway International Bridge was dismantled in 2014 when a new lower bridge opened. One of the tall pillars was kept.
The third lower bridge opened on January 24th, 2014.
