The Cow Bay Moose was created by Winston Bronnum in 1959, along with several other animal sculptures, on Silver Sands Beach in Cow Bay. The other sculptures, and the beach itself, are now mostly gone, but the 12 foot Moose still stands tall and proud. It was relocated to its current position in 2001 and was given a realistic paint job by Nova Scotia mural artist Lynda McConnell in 2014. Since 2006, the Moose’s reputation has grown beyond Cow Bay when he made an appearance in the Canadian mockumentary series “Trailer Park Boys”
The Moose is very much a part the local community; in fact the annual Cow Bay marathon is called the Moose Run as runners are meant to wave as they pass by 😊
About the artist: The New Brunswick artist was 30 years old when he created the Cow Bay Moose, the first of the full scale, or larger than life concrete animals he designed and sculpted. He is known for creating a number of other giant creatures, including “Jumbo The Elephant” in St. Thomas, Ontario, and in New Brunswick, “Blowhard the broken-down racehorse”, the Maugerville potato, and the giant Shediac lobster. He also created a fantasy animal kingdom called “Animaland” which also housed his studio. Animaland is now closed, but the other structures are still standing, and most have geocaches located nearby😊
