Geocache Description:

##DO NOT PARK ON ORCHARD STREET -THIS IS PRIVATE RESIDENTAL LAND-YOU WILL BE TREPASSING##

**YOU MUST PARK AT THE CRANBERRY LAKE PRESERVE PARKING LOT** this parking lot is off of Orchard Street in the Preserve- available from Dawn till Dusk, 7 days a week.

This Virtual Cache brings you to a Quarry and is a location that I have been to throughout my lifetime. So, often have I been here that I can traverse it without a map, I know it like the back of my hand!

This Quarry is where all of the stone for the Kensico Dam was harvested. The dam construction was started in 1913 and was completed in 1917, three years ahead of schedule. It cost more than $15,000,000 ,roughly $250,000,000 today. The project employed more than 1500 workers. Workers earned an average of $1.25 per day and were predominately Italian male workers. This Kensico Dam was built to increase the capacity of the previous reservoir that was not able to fulfill Manhattans need for water. The new Kensico Dam stands 307 feet high and 1,843 feet long. This expansion required the land from the village of Kensico to be purshased and then flooded to make the new reservior. The former town now rests underwater, covered by the now larger Kensico Reservior. Railroad tracks were built for the purpose of removing earth from the site (Cranberry lake quarry) as well as moving the stone. The dam face is made of large granite from the quarry. There is a road that runs over the top of the dam, though it has been closed since the September 11th attacks (pedestrians are allowed to walk on this road, which can be reached by pulling off on the shoulder of the nearby road or by hiking up the steps going up either side of the dam). I recommend taking a trip to the Dam.

This metal hook (the location for your photo proof) is one of many hooks that were imbedded in this quarry. They were used for various purposes, including mining raw materials such as stone, metal ore, or clay.

Proof of Find:
1). you must take a picture of yourself (or your shoes) by the metal hook that is imbedded into the stone. GPS coordinates (N 041 04.397  W 073 45.191).  The original photo op by a spray painted Kilroy has been sprayed over. So I wouldn't have further issues I decided to make the metal hook the photo op (pretty sure it is not going anywhere lol!)

2). Private Message me the answer to this question. What is the name on the plaque of the boy scout who created this exhibit as part of his Eagle Scout Project? (GPS coordinates: N 41 04.349 W 073 45.223)
