Hjelmkollen fort






Hjelmkollen fort ligger på en markert kolle like øst for den gamle Svinesundsbroen i Halden kommune. Pass på barna i dette området. Spennende sted for barn og voksne, men bratt terreng noen steder kan være farlige.

Som en følge av den usikre situasjonen før Unionsoppløsningen på begynnelsen av 1900-tallet ble fortet anlagt i 1902-03 som et fremskutt fort mot Sverige. Hovedskytset var to Schneider-Canet L40 M/1902 12 cm tårn­kanoner. Disse var nedsprengt i fjell med underliggende bunkere. I tillegg to mitraljøsestillinger og en rekke mindre stillinger til nærforsvar. Fortet dekker innseilingen til Halden og det gamle fergestedet ved Svinesund, mens broen ble bygget først i 1946.

Hjelmkollen fort var underlagt Fredriksten festning i Halden.

Etter Karlstadforliket i 1905 ble kanonene fjernet og anlegget demolert sommeren 1906. Kanone ble remontert på det nybygde Greåker fort.

Ved okkupasjonen under andre verdenskrig tok de tyske styrkene anlegget i bruk. Anlegget er nå fredet og fortsatt eid av Forsvaret.

NB! Bildet skal ikke sendes til CO, men (som nevnt ovenfor) legges til i loggen når cachen logges. Logg uten bilde vil bli slettet.


Hjelmkollen fort is located on a marked knoll just east of the old Svinesund bridge in Halden municipality. Please watch after your kids in this area. It's an exciting place for kids and adults alike, but the terrain might be steep and in some places dangerous.

As a result of the uncertain situation before the dissolution of the Union at the beginning of the 20th century, the fort was built in 1902-03 as an advance fort towards Sweden. The main gunnery was two Schneider-Canet L40 M/1902 12 cm turret guns. These were blasted into mountains with underlying bunkers. In addition, two machine gun positions and a number of smaller positions for close defence. The fort covers the approach to Halden and the old ferry site at Svinesund, while the bridge was first built in 1946.

Hjelmkollen fort was subordinate to Fredriksten fortress in Halden.

After the Karlstad settlement in 1905, the cannons were removed and the facility demolished in the summer of 1906. The cannon was reassembled at the newly built Greåker fort.

During the occupation during the Second World War, the German forces took the facility into use. The facility is now protected and still owned by the Norwegian Armed Forces.


Logging requirements: Take a picture of yourself, your GPS, a part of you or something with your nick on with the two Svinesund bridges in the background, and attach it to your log when logging the cache. Your face do not have to be included in the picture. If it's dark, foggy, etc., it's ok. Just take the picture as good as possible in the right direction.

NB! The picture should not be sent to CO, but (as mentioned above) attached to your log. Logs without picture will be deleted.
