Geocache Description:

“Rising Phoenix” is a beautiful sculpture that not many people know about. Very little is known about the 18-foot bronze and stained-glass sculpture itself, though it was created in 1958 and originally erected in front of the citrus groves at a Phoenix shopping center. It has since been put on a few different pedestals and moved, but ultimately staying in front of the same shopping center.

The Rising Phoenix creator, Paul Coze was born in 1903 in Beirut Germany, but grew up in France. After making many visits to the Phoenix valley, he permanently moved there in 1951 and eventually became a United States citizen while still retaining his French citizenship. Paul Coze illustrated and wrote articles for National Geographic and Arizona Highways magazines. If you like the Rising Phoenix, you may want to check out “The Phoenix” mural now on display at the Rental Car Center near Sky Harbor Internation airport.

To claim this virtual geocache, stand on the corner and include a selfie with the Phoenix in the background with your log. If you are not comfortable including yourself in the picture then just include the sculpture.

Please park in the parking lot and there is no need to go on the grass or disturb the flowers. You can stand on the corner for the picture.
